/nyc-dob-permits
DOB permit and filing history for NYC buildings
What it does
Provide an address, BBL, or BIN and get the full DOB permit and job filing history. The skill queries four datasets — Legacy BIS permits and filings plus DOB NOW permits and filings — then merges, sorts by date, and groups by job type: New Building (NB), Alteration Type 1 (A1), Alteration Type 2/3 (A2/A3), Demolition (DM), and Other. For buildings predating 1989, it notes that pre-BIS records exist only on paper.

Does it search both BIS and DOB NOW?
Yes. It queries the legacy BIS permit and job filing datasets and the DOB NOW permit and filing datasets on NYC Open Data, then merges the results by date while keeping each system's records identifiable.
Can it find permits from before 1989?
Usually not. Records from before BIS went online, around 1989, were never digitized, so they exist only on paper at the Department of Buildings. The skill notes this when a building predates the digital record.
Does a signed-off or approved status mean the work is legal?
No. A status in the DOB database is a record, not a legal clearance or a determination of compliance. The skill links the original filings and keeps open items visible so a licensed professional can verify them.
What is the difference between this and /nyc-dob-violations?
This skill covers filed and permitted work, which gives you a building's renovation history. Use /nyc-dob-violations for DOB and ECB violations and penalties, and /nyc-hpd for housing-code violations.
